A candle closing beyond a level is not automatically a breakout. In training we treat that print as a claim — one the market still has to defend.
What we look for next
Participation after the break matters more than the first spike. If price slips back into the prior range and holds there, the claim failed. If it retests the level from the other side and buyers (or sellers) remain, the story strengthens.
A practical filter
Before entry, write three lines: the level that broke, the invalidation if it fails, and the behaviour that would confirm continuation. If you cannot fill those lines quickly, the setup is not ready.
This habit alone removes many impulsive tags that look clever in hindsight and expensive in the moment.
